Artist Statement
I’m Delisa and I’m a maker of things.
I make things because I must. I am driven to create.
I make jewelry, knit, crochet, paint, soap, photography and write. If I’m not making something, I’m not a happy camper.
I learned how to make wire wrapped jewelry over years ago. I’m totally obsessed with spirals and wire is an amazing way to create spirals. I believe that stones and crystals have their own natural energy patterns.
I try to listen to that energy and create a setting that fits that stone or crystal.
I work with 14k gold filled, sterling silver, copper and steel wire. Each piece is made by hand with small pliers. Working this way allows the individuality of each stone or crystal to come through.
I sometime use Swarovski crystal, Czech glass or other beads to the pieces.
I learned to crochet when I was a teen and then taught myself how to knit. I love the many kinds of yarns you can get and all the colors.
I love to give my finished projects interesting names like The Eyeball of Discontent hat.
I also enjoy painting, drawing and taking photos of the beautiful things that inspire me everyday.
